Program Studi Sarjana Statistika (in Bahasa Indonesia) or The Undergraduate Program of Statistics Universitas Gadjah Mada (in short: UP-Stat) is conducted under the Department of Mathematics Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada since 1987. In running its academic program, the UP-Stat is supported by six groups of expertise: statistics, statistical computations, algebra, analysis, applied mathematics, and mathematical computation. These six groups of expertise are involving Department of Mathematics academic staffs.
Type of the UP-Stat is a full-time study. The program is run five days a week from Monday until Friday, from 07.30 am until 07.10 pm. All academic activities take place in the Faculty Campus located at Sekip Utara Bulaksumur, Yogyakarta Indonesia. Lectures are mostly given by academic staffs from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and are supported by some facilities such as whiteboards, overhead projectors, lecture notes, a portal of learning and academic (http://elisa.ugm.ac.id), and (http://palawa.ugm.ac.id).
In accordance with the Government Regulation No. 30/1990, the degree of the graduates from UP-Stat is S.Si. (Sarjana Sains/Bachelor of Science). The degree is awarded after a student completes about at least 144 credits consisting of some compulsory courses and some elective courses designed for 8 semesters. One credit unit is equal to three-hour activities per week in one semester comprising one hour of scheduled lecture (face to face lecture), one hour planned (by the lecturers) yet unscheduled activities (such as doing homework and reports writing) and an hour standalone study.
In general, graduates of UP-Stat have the potential to work in the academic sector, as lecturers or researchers in colleges, universities or an higher education institution, or work as statistical practitioners (such as research consultant, data scientist, research manager, data manager, quality control manager, etc) who implement statistical methods in their work.
